{meet lucy}

These posts are not getting easier to write. In fact, this one here has taken me about 4 days to finish. Deciding what to say, how to say it, what parts of the story to tell. This beautiful little girl, Lucy, has a story that I can't seem to condense to one blog post.

So let me start with this. Lucy is 2 years old, and like most little girls that age, she made us work for a few pictures. :) At the age of two, girls especially, seem to want nothing to do with a camera. Which is amusing, really, because shortly after age two, most little girls can't stay away from it. :)

But we got some smiles, and got some giggles. She made us work, but she couldn't keep the beauty away...even when she wasn't smiling.

Lucy is a miracle. Completely.

Born with a very rare and severe defect called Ebstein's Anomaly,
as well as an Atrioseptal Defect,
Lucy started her life struggling for life.

A baby blue and not breathing. A trip via flight for life at just hours old to Denver Children's Hospital. A stent put in her PDA at just 13 days old. Developing a near fatal arrythmia. A potentially fatal infection in the wall of her intestine. Emergency catheterizations. Tests, procedures, drugs, temperature control requiring near hypothermic temps, intervenous feedings.

A mom and dad, not knowing if their tiny baby girl will survive through the night.

But she did. Each night. And she came out of this near fatal experience a fighter! After 24 days in the cardiac intensive care unit, Lucy was able to go home. She went home with a list of medications and instructions, but she went home.

But she wasn't done fighting, not just yet. At her 4 month check up, another arrythmia was discovered on her EKG. She had to be put on a potentially toxic drug, needing frequent blood tests to make sure the levels were not dangerous.

At 6 months old Lucy had open heart surgery.

And at the age of 2, she is no longer on many of the medications. Lucy may have more struggles to face as she grows, but one thing is certain. This little miss has overcome odds many times before, and she'll do it again. She's a fighter.

And man, is she a cutie!!

Without further hesitation...

Meet Lucy...

A little girl who loves to sing and dance. A little girl who sleeps covered in stuffed animals. A little girl who loves jumping on the trampoline. A little girl who defies the odds. Full of joy, full of strength, and about as beautiful as little girls come....

Lucy, my niece, and Christy, my sister, are my heroes. Little Lucy is a true miracle. She's more precious and perfect than any picture can show. Thank you for this blog. Thank God for life and love and Lucy. Hugs, Aunt Lori
